Load Profitability Calculator — Frequently Asked Questions

It's pure math on the numbers you entered — not an industry claim. If the load loses money, or the effective $ per hour is at or below $0, it's a Skip It — a load isn't worth taking if it doesn't cover your own time. Take It only shows once you've entered your own target profit per mile and minimum acceptable $ per hour above, and this load clears both. Until you set both targets, you'll see your real numbers and a prompt to set them — this tool won't call a load good without knowing what counts as good for you.
Use your own number from the Cost Per Mile Calculator on this site, or your actual number from last quarter's expenses. This is the one input that matters most — an inaccurate cost per mile makes every verdict this tool gives you unreliable.
Yes — your truck burns fuel and racks up wear whether or not it's loaded, so deadhead miles carry the same cost per mile as loaded miles even though they earn nothing. That's exactly why this calculator adds deadhead to loaded miles before it computes total cost.
Tolls, lumper fees, scale fees, and any parking or layover costs specific to this load. Leave out your fixed monthly costs (truck payment, insurance) — those are already baked into your cost per mile.
Yes — it works just as well after the fact as a quick check on whether a load you already ran was actually worth it. Running it on your last few loads is a fast way to spot which brokers or lanes are quietly costing you money.
