Tax Expense Estimator

Get a quick estimate of what you'll owe before tax season surprises you. Enter your gross revenue and business expenses for the year, and see estimated self-employment tax, federal income tax, and what's actually left as take-home.

Estimate Your Tax Liability

This estimate assumes a single filer taxed as a sole proprietor. A single-member LLC is treated identically by default. Married and other filing statuses use different brackets and will give different real numbers. It also ignores the standard deduction and the QBI deduction, so it may overstate your federal tax.

Net Profit$0.00
Self-Employment Tax (15.3%)$0.00
Est. Federal Income Tax$0.00
Total Estimated Tax$0.00
Estimated Take-Home$0.00

Disclaimer: This is an estimate only, using single-filer federal tax brackets — married filers and other statuses will see different real numbers. Consult a tax professional for your actual liability.

Tax Expense Estimator — Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — fuel, truck loan interest or lease payments, insurance, maintenance, and depreciation are all legitimate business expenses that reduce your taxable net profit. Work from your actual bookkeeping totals for the most accurate estimate.
Self-employment tax (15.3%) covers your Social Security and Medicare contributions that an employer would otherwise split with you — as an owner-operator, you owe both halves yourself, on top of regular federal income tax on your net profit.
This estimates your annual total tax liability — divide the total by four for a rough quarterly estimated payment, though your accountant may adjust this based on prior-year safe harbor rules.
A single-member LLC is taxed the same as a sole proprietorship by default (this calculator treats them the same) — the LLC mainly changes liability protection, not your federal tax calculation, unless you've separately elected S-corp treatment.
Not automatically — subtract your truck's depreciation (or the standard mileage deduction, whichever you use) from revenue before entering it as an expense, since that meaningfully lowers taxable net profit for most owner-operators.
